Hope Township was the rural area around and north of the municipality of Port Hope. At one time Hope Township took in the area bounded roughly by the Lake Ontario on the south, Highway 28 on the east. The west side of Hope Township was not a clearly delineated by a highway. It followed a straight line connecting the pieces of East Town Line Road and Cold Springs Camp Road. The north end of Hope Township also was not a clear line, but it extended north to a road above the 10th Concession. The area is very fertile and beautiful. Over the years Hope Township was known for being stingy with severances. They worked very hard to preserve the farm lands even before it was a popular attitude to have. The result is fewer small lots than would typically be found in a rural area and some wonderful estate properties.
